  • 1 block (16 oz) extra-firm tofu
  • 1 tablespoon low-sodium tamari or soy sauce
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/3 cup low-sodium tamari or soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Gluten-free breadcrumbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Drain and press the tofu for at least 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
  3. In a large bowl, toss the tofu with 1 tablespoon of tamari.
  4. Coat the tofu with cornstarch and then with gluten-free breadcrumbs.
  5. Spread the coated tofu on a parchment-lined baking tray and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  6. In a small sauté pan, heat oil and sauté minced garlic until lightly browned.
  7. Add remaining tamari, honey or maple syrup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and water; stir well.
  8. Whisk remaining cornstarch with water and add to the sauce; heat until thickened.
  9. Toss baked tofu with sauce before serving.
