  • 1 pound fresh crab meat (Dungeness or blue)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chives, finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 French baguette (sliced into 1/2-inch pieces)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. If using whole crabs, steam them for about 10 minutes until bright red. Allow to cool before extracting crab meat.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and sauté minced garlic until fragrant (about 1-2 minutes).
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine crab meat, melted garlic butter, lemon juice, parsley, chives, salt, and pepper gently.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange baguette slices on a baking sheet and brush both sides with olive oil.
  5. Toast the baguette in the oven for 5-7 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Remove from oven and top each slice with the crab mixture.
  7. Optional: Sprinkle grated Parmesan on top if desired.
  8. Return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes to meld flavors.
